MCX turnover high at Rs 3,275.04 cr in first session

Mumbai, May 30 (UNI) The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) turnover today in the first session up to 1700 hrs was Rs 3,275.04 crore down 10 per cent from turnover in the comparable session on the previous day.

Total number of trades was 56,512 against 65,306 in the previous session.

MCX Comdex -- the composite index of metal, energy and agri-indices -- was up 0.41 pc at 2125.79 points. MCX Metal Index was down 0.02 pc at 2548.72 points, MCX Energy Index was up 1.16 pc at 2139.82 points and MCX Agri Index ended down 0.18 pc at 1677.02 points, a MCX spokesperson said.

Bullion turnover totalled Rs 1,329.2 crore with gold accounting for Rs 973.63 crore and silver for Rs 355.57 crore. Gold contract volumes were 11,156 kgs and open interest (OI) 16,930 kgs while silver volumes were 196,915 kgs and OI was 580,640 kgs.

Gold contracts, including gold mini, traded in a range of Rs 5 to Rs 26 per 10 gms, with the June contracts up 0.28 per cent at Rs 8657.

Silver contracts, including silver mini, traded between Rs 3 and 12 per kg. The July contract was up 0.06 pc at Rs 18,031 per kg.

In the base metals segment, copper contracts turnover was Rs 682.33 crore with volume of 22,974,000 kg and OI of 14,681,000 kg.

Copper contracts lost between Re 0.65 and Rs 1.10 per kg with the June contract down 0.32 pc at Rs 297.35 per kg.

Turnover of all zinc contracts was Rs 485.74 crore with volume of 33,010 tonnes and OI of 27,715 tonnes. Zinc contracts were down between Re 0.15 and 0.40 with the near month (May) contract down 0.17 pc at Rs 146.60 per kg.

Turnover of all nickel contracts was Rs 122.30 crore with volume of 599,250 kg and OI of 633,000 kg. Nickel for May delivery was down 0.27 pc at Rs 2057.20 per kg.

Turnover of all aluminium contracts was Rs 14.41 crore with volume of 1,284 tonnes and OI of 6,652 tonnes. Aluminium May 07 contract was up 0.59 pc at Rs 111.4 per kg, he added.
