Man awarded life sentence in murder case

Madikeri, Karnataka, May 30 (UNI) A Fast Track Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment, while acquitting three others in a murder case.

The court awarded lifer to Varath Basheer, a resident of Kunjila village, and acquitted Irshad, Ashrad and Kannapani for lack of evidence.

A tense situation prevailed for some time on the court premises when Basheer's supporters pelted stones at the complainants. Police registered a case in this regard.

The prosecution case was that Basheer and three others had stopped the bus in which Makki Ali was travelling from Virajpet in 2005.

They had pulled out Ali and attacked him with clubs and billhooks, while the other passengers remained mute spectators.
