Mala Mahanadu President embarks on 'fast unto death'

Hyderabad, May 30 (UNI) Mala Mahanadu state President J Prabhakar Rao today embarked on a 'fast unto death' strike, demanding the Andhra Pradesh government and Centre to wind up the Usha Mehra Commission, constituted to study the categorisation of Scheduled Castes into A, B, C, D groups to provide reservation in education and employment in the state.

Alleging that the state government was supporting the categorization of SCs into four groups, against the spirit of the Constitution, Mr Rao told newspersons here that he would continue the fast until the the Commission was scrapped.

Meanwhile, police forces were deployed near Tank bund where the 'Mala Mahanadu' leader launched the fast near an Ambedkar statue, to prevent any law and order problem.

Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi (MRPS) founder President Krishna Madiga also launched a fast unto death stir, demanding the government to categorise the SCs into four groups recently.

However, he withdrew the strike after the state government gave an assurance.
