JEE 2007 results declared, Achin Bansal from Delhi tops

Mumbai, May 30 (UNI) The results of the prestigious JEE 2007 held on April 8 have been declared.

Out of 243,029 candidates who wrote the exam 7,200 candidates are eligible to seek admission to 5,537 seats in IIT's at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee, and IT-BHU and ISM Dhanbad.

Mr Achin Bansal from IIT Delhi Zone topped this year's All India list of successful candidates.

This year 54,025 girls wrote JEE 2007 and 587 of them qualified.

Ms Ankita Sharma from IIT Bombay zone with an All India rank of 55, topped the list of girls candidates.

Addressing the media today, Deputy Director of IIT Bombay Juzer Vasi said, ''The number of qualified candidates out of those who appeared in different IIT zones are Bombay-2235 out of 45,246, Delhi-1398 out of 45,910, Guwahati-137 out of 15,675, Kanpur-513 out of 38,849, Kharagpur-733 out of 32,693, Madras-1,688 out of 38,192 and Roorkee-496 out of 26,464.'' Councelling for admissions begins on June 18 and concludes on June 22 for the All India Rank (AIR) holders. Courses allocated to the successful candidates will be declared on June 29.

Mr Vasi added, ''IIT's admit SC/ST students with relaxed criteria.

This year 20,892 candidates wrote JEE 2007 out of whom 594 qualified. Similarly 5,909 ST candidates wrote JEE 2007 and 109 of them qualified. Ms Anasuya Mandal ranked 449 in the common merit list and Ms Varunie Shashni ranked 983 in the common merit list were the highest ranked SC and ST candidates respectively.'' IIT's, IT-BHU and ISMU also hold a one year Preparatory Course for SC/ST students who do not make it to the common or reserved category merit lists. This year 306 SC candidates and 411 ST candidates have qualified for the Preparatory Course. Their counselling will be held on July 6 at IIT's, IT-BHU and ISM.

Candidates with certified physical disabilities (PD) are granted admission with relaxed norms. Fifteen candidates qualified under these norms. For students with reading disability, specially enlarged question papers were provided this year.

An extended merit list has also been compiled and displayed.

Students on this list may be counselled by the Indian Institute of Space Science Technology (IIST) , Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER). The Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) also offers admission based on JEE 2007 results.
