Hot weather conditions prevail in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh, May 30 (UNI) Hot weather conditions prevailed in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh Union Territory today even as the mercury hovered below normal at most places in the plains today.

Schorching heat prevailed in Haryana with Hissar recording 40.8 degrees celsius. The mercury, however, settled at 38.9 degrees at Ambala and 39.0 degrees at Karnal, which was one degree below normal.

In Punjab, the mercury again soared at Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala. The holy city recorded 40.0 degrees while Ludhiana and Patiala showed 39.7 degrees celsius each. The maximum, however, stayed one degree below normal at both Ludhiana and Patiala.

The temperature further rose at Chandigarh and its adjoining areas. The city registered 38.8 degrees against 38.0 degrees recorded yesterday.

The mercury kept its upward movement in parts of Himachal Pradesh with Una recording 38.0 degrees celsius. Bhuntar in Kullu district recorded 32.0 degrees, Sunderdnagar in Mandi district 34.4 degrees and Kalpa in Kinnaur district 21.0 degrees celsius. Kalpa also reported mild rain. The mercury stayed at 26.0 degrees at Shimla.

The temperatures hovered two degrees below normal at Jammu recording 37.9 degrees while Srinagar registered 26.0 degrees celsius.

The weather office has predicted light to moderate rain or thundershowers at few places in Himachal Pradesh and duststorm or thunderstorm with light rain at isolated places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 24 hours.
