Governor urged to improve literacy percentage
Shillong, May 30 (UNI) Meghalaya Governor B L Joshi today urged the state government to improve the literacy rates in the state.
Inaugurating a silver jubliee celebration of the Alpha English Higher Secondary School, Nongpoh said, ''We should face the fact boldly and do everything possible to make our literacy percentage higher.'' He said education is the foundation of the contemporary transformation in human society.
''The potential and achievement of any nation can only be assessed by the level of its educational development. Educational institutions have, therefore, a special and important position in national life. The future of the nation depends on the performance of our educational institutions and on the sense of responsibility with which the teachers discharge their sacred duties'', the governor added.
