Four militants killed, two nabbed, huge arms haul in J

Jammu/Srinagar, May 30 (UNI) Troops foiled fourth infiltration bid from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in the recent past when they killed three intruders near the Line of Control (LoC) while security forces apprehended two Hizbul Mujahideen militants and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition in Jammu and Kashmir during the past 24 hours, an official spokesman said today.

He said troops foiled a major infiltration bid from across the LoC at Sabra Gali in Mendhar sector of Poonch district in Jammu region during the intervening night of May 29-30.

The spokesman said alert soldiers noticed a group of heavily armed militants intruding into the Indian side at Sabra Gali.

When challenged, the infiltrators opened fire on the troops. In the ensuing gun-battle, troops gunned down three militants.

Three AK rifles, 20 magazines, 200 rounds, 11 hand grenades, one under barrel grenade launcher (UBGL), one wire cutter, one global positioning system (GPS), three wireless sets, one map of Poonch district, one first aid kit, five wireless antennas and three jackets were seized from the possession of the slain intruders.

This was the fourth infiltration bid from PoK in the recent past.

Troops had foiled an incursion bid at Chakla in Sunderbani area of Rajouri district on May 25. The intruders had left behind six AK-47 riffles and some ammunition.

Another attempt by militants to enter the Indian territory via Krishna Ghati in Poonch was foiled on the intervening night of May 25-26. A soldier was killed and another wounded in the encounter.

On May 27, troops foiled another infiltration bid when they killed two intruders near Ustad Post along the LoC in Keran sector of Kupwara district.

The spokesman said a militant of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) was killed by the personnel of the Special Operation Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and 14 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) in a joint operation at Shogbaba in Bandipora district, about 55 km from here, in north Kashmir this morning.

One AK rifle and some arms and ammunition were seized from the slain Lashkar militant, identified as Suleiman alias Hakim Din, a Pakistani national, he added.
