Pondy: Four footboard travellers killed, 3 injured

Puducherry, May 30: Four people were killed on the spot and three injured, one of them seriously, after they were crushed while hanging from the footboard of a private bus at Thavalakuppam, near here today.

According to police, the victims were sandwiched when the overcrowded bus on its way here from Bahour took a turn at the Thavalakuppam junction and brushed against a stationary tipper lorry.

The deceased were identified as Karthipan, Angappan, Anbazhagan and Nagarajan.

Of the three injured Balu, Subramanian and Arulraj, admitted to the Government General hospital, the condition of Balu was said to be critical, police said.

Tension prevailed in the area following the incident as public ransacked four buses, including three buses of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation.

Shopkeepers in the area downed their shutters following the tension.

A strong contigent of policemen were posted in the area.
