Five held in kidnapping case

Mumbai, May 30 (UNI) The Anti-Robbery Squad (ARS) of city police has arrested five persons for allegedly kidnapping a builder's son for ransom.

The arrested were identified as Abdul Latif Abdul Rouf Sayyed alias Bobby (31), Nasir Sher Khan (30), Ashraf Firoz Khan (22), Faiyaz Nazir Quressi alias Tota (22) and Shabad Mustaq Sayyed alias Ali (21).

Addressing mediapersons here today, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Deven Bharati said acting on a tip-off, the five were arrested yesterday near Amber Hotel in Bandra by an Anti Robbery Squad (ARS) team, headed by senior inspector Vijay Salaskar.

Mr Bharati said a 16-year-old girl was also involved in this case. She had called up Parvez Lakdawala to a hotel on May 12 from where the latter was kidnapped and a ransom of Rs one crore was demanded for his release. However, Parvez was released next day.

Yesterday, the ARS had received a tip about the whereabouts of the suspects, following which the five were arrested, Mr Bharati added.

Police had seized two revolvers, four live cartridges, and two four-wheelers from their possession.

The five were produced before a local court this afternoon, which had remanded them in police custody till June 13.
