Eight people killed in two road mishaps in Karnataka

Bangalore, May 30 (UNI) Eight people were killed and two others injured in two road accident in Karnataka, today.

Five passengers of a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus were mowed down by a speeding lorry in Bagalkot district.

The passengers had alighted from the bus after one of the tyres burst and tried to signal a lorry, coming from Bangalore, to stop police said. However, the speeding truck ran over them, killing all the five on the spot. This included the two drivers of the long distance bus.

After being alerted, Ilkal police spotted the lorry and arrested the driver.

In the other incident in Belgaum district, three people were killed on the spot and two others injured when a truck collided with a stationary truck near Kakati, about ten km from Belgaum city.

The truck was carrying mangoes from Arasikere to Sangli in Maharashtra when the mishap occurred. The injured were admitted to Belgaum district hospital, police added.
