Puducherry, May 30 (UNI) Challenging the claim of contractors that e-tender could not be floated in respect of Public Works Department (PWD) here, AIADMK state secretary A Anbazhagan today said he would resign his MLA's post if this could be proved with documentary evidences.

Addressing a press conference here, Mr Anbazhagan said when his party along with the Puducherry Munnetra Congress insisted in the legislative assembly that PWD tenders be floated on internet, the PWD minister and officials remained silent.

However, the minister and the officials allowed the contractors against whom the allegations were levelled to make a statement to state that e-tender could not be possible in PWD, Mr Anbazhagan said and wondered whether the contractors had undertaken any work without ten per cent commission.

The AIADMK leader said during 2001 when P Shanmugham was Chief Minister, auctioning of arrack and toddy shops were conducted through internet which raised the revenue collection from Rs 30 crore to Rs 55 crore.

Reitrating that the PWD tenders should be floated on internet, Mr Anbazhagan said this would help the government to save Rs 150 crore.
