Shimla, May 30 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh unit of the CPM today sought resignations of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and his wife and Lok Sabha MP Pratibha Singh on moral grounds following charges of corruption levelled against them.

Since people have lost confidence in the state Congress Government and especially in the Chief Minister and his MP wife they should resign on moral grounds, party's state secretary Rakesh Singha said here.

He said following charges of corruption levelled against them and to maintain neutrality and independence in the inquiry, the two step down voluntarily.

Accusing both the Congress and BJP of being corrupt and giving rise to widespread corruption in the state during their respective terms, Mr Singha said if corruption charges were now being levelled against the Congress, several such charges have also been levelled against the BJP in the past, he said.

He said seven legislators of the previous BJP government had not only levelled serious corruption charges against the then chief minister P K Dhumal but had also issued a chargesheet against its own government.

The chargesheet had amply brought out the corrupt practices being followed by the then BJP government, he said.

Besides, the CPM secretary said, the government's involvement in recruitment in HP Subordinate Services Selection Board (SSSB) and irregularities in the printing of question papers of the HP University were well known.
