Congress will come back to power in Kerala: Jairam Ramesh

Kochi, May 30 (UNI) Reposing faith in the leadership of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Ramesh Chennithala, Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh today said the party would make a resurgence in the next parliamentary and assembly elections in the state.

Addressing a gathering here at the ongoing golden jubilee celebrations of Kerala Students Union (KSU), the students' wing of the Congress, the minister said Mr Chennithala had galvanised the party and there was unity among all the state party leaders.

''In the next parliamentary elections, the party should be able to win 12 to 14 seats in Kerala and the Congress would be back in power after the next Assembly elections in the state,'' he said.

Mr Ramesh said that if the Congress replicated the party's concerted activities of the state in other regions of the country, the party would not face any problems in mobilising public opinion.

''In no other state, except Kerala, the party published a newspaper and this is worth mentioning,'' he noted.

Mr Ramesh said it was a tribute to KSU that it had produced top Congress leaders of the state.

He said KSU had a pivotal role to play in spreading the political thinking of the Congress to the youth.

Touching on 'factionalism' in the CPM, Mr Ramesh said ''the Communist Party was going through what the Congress went through long back.'' UNI
