Chahal granted interim bail till tomorrow

Chandigarh, May 30 (UNI) Mr Justice Uma Nath Singh of the Punjab and Haryana High Court today granted interim bail till tomorrow to Mr Bharat Inder Singh Chahal, Media Advisor to former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, in connection with the case of City Centre project of Ludhiana Improvement Trust the contract of which was awarded to New Delhi-based Today Homes.

The case has been registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act against over a dozen persons, including capt. Amarinder Singh, former Minister Jagjit Singh Chaudhary and others.

Mr Chahal has been asked not to leave territorial jurisdiction of Chandigarh Union Territory, and to surrender his passport in the court tomorrow when his anticipatory bail plea is to taken up for consideration.

Mr Justice Uma Nath Singh also directed the Punjab Vigilance Bureau to file an affidavit by tomorrow about the cases involving Mr Chahal.

In a relateed development, Mr Chahal who drove down from New Delhi this morning, also appeared before the full bench of Chief Justice Vijender Jain, Justice Surya Kant and Justice Rajive Bhalla in connection with the case of contempt of court pertaining to his attempt to interfere with the judicial process in regard to case of selection and appointment of some persons directly as DSPs in state police which also included his son.

He was asked to execute bail bond with the Registrar-General of the High Court. The next hearing in the case has now been adjourned to July 18.
