Campaign to include Taj in Wonders list

Bhopal, May 30 (UNI) A public awareness campaign will be run to include Agra's Taj Mahal in the New Seven Wonders of the World.

''Private institutes' cooperation will also be sought in this endeavour. A poster campaign will target educational institutions, railway stations, bus stands, airports and other locations,'' Archaeological Survey of India Superintending Archaeologist (Bhopal Circle) K K Mohammad told reporters here today.

UNESCO has inititiated a campaign wherein monuments in 21 countries are vying for inclusion in the Wonders list.

''Twenty-five per cent of the votes polled thus far have gone in favour of a monument in Peru while the Taj has received only 0.7 per cent votes. Heavy voting has taken place in favour of the Great Wall of China, pyramids, Angkor Vat temple and the Eiffel Tower,'' said Mr Mohammad.

The ASI is attempting to ensure that the cost of SMS and telephone voting be borne by the Centre.
