BJP activists rally against ULFA, ISI
Guwahati, May 30 (UNI) The Opposition BJP today took out a protest rally here against recurring ULFA-sponsored violence and demanded a CBI inquiry into the alleged Congress-ULFA nexus.
Hundreds of party activists, including state president Ramen Deka and former Union minister Bijoya Chakraborty, marched from the district library to the DC office, seeking stern action against the militants.
The saffron brigade demanded a CBI inquiry into the SIM card controversy involving some senior leaders of the Congress and the ULFA.
Purportedly based on Army inputs, recent media reports alleged that the ULFA was using SIM cards procured in the name of senior state Congress leaders.
A BJP spokesperson said the party had also demanded immediate raids in the areas suspected to be hideouts of fundamentalist outfits, which were abetting terror in the state.
He said the fundamentalists were aiding the ULFA to carry out subversive activities in the state.
''Intelligence reports suggest that fundamentalist outfits, including the ISI, were using Madrassas, Mosques and the 'sar' areas of the Brahmaputra as their bases. The BJP has demanded the state government conduct raids in these suspected places to eliminate the terrorist elements,'' he added.
Meanwhile, the Asom United Democratic Front(AUDF) has demanded President's intervention in maintaining the law and order in Asom.
The party has dashed a memorandum to the Prime Minister apprising him of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
Alleging failure of the Congress-led state government on the security front, the AUDF sought stern action against the militants.
Nine people were killed and several others injured in one of the deadliest attacks by the ULFA at Athgaon in Guwahati on May 26.
The incident triggered a public uproar against the outfit, with various organisations and political parties taking to the streets to protest the unabated killing of civilians.
