Kohima, May 30 (UNI) Tension ran high along the Asom-Nagaland interstate border in the Mokokchung district of Nagaland following the killing of a Naga villager in Anaki-C village under Mokokchung district.

Official sources today said a group of 18 Asom Police jawans entered the Anaki-C village with AK-47 rifles and fired at a villager killing him on the spot. Mokokchung Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Singh said, ''The incident took place at around 1430 hours yesterday when Alemongba (50) and his wife were working in the tea garden.

Mr Singh alleged that the group of Asom Police jawans came to the village and fired at Mr Alemongba, who was also the in-charge of the tea garden labourers. His body was later brought to the village.

Mr Singh added that the Asom Police had arrested Mr Alemongba few months back when he was clearing the forest area bordering Asom.

Asom Police had then alleged that he was trespassing in the Reserved Forest.

Mr Singh informed that the district administration was taking precautionary measures in the area. ''Nagaland Police have been deployed in the village,'' he said.

Describing the acts of the Asom Police as an ''act of terrorism in uniform'' Mr Singh demanded necessary action against the guilty jawans. He informed that he had communicated with his Sibsagar counterpart that the guilty policemen should be arrested.
