Army jawan gets life term for killing fiancee

Kurukshetra, May 30 (UNI) A local court today sentenced an army jawan to life imprisonment for killing his fiancee.

District and Sessions judge Shekhar Dhawan also sentenced army jawan Satwinder Singh to a concurrent six-month imprisonment under the Arms Act.

According to the prosecution, Satwinder Singh of Sonipat district fired three shots from a revolver and killed his fiancee Jyoti whom he had come to meet in a hotel on the Railway Road here on 14 March, 2005.

The victim, a second-year graduate student of a local women college, had come to see him along with her classmate.

Satwinder had an altercation with the girl following which he fired three shots, killing her on the spot.

The accused then tried to commit suicide and fired a shot at himself too but he survived.
