Actress Vanmala Pawar dead

Gwalior, May 30 (UNI) Prominent Marathi and Hindi film actress of yesteryears Vanmala Pawar died at her residence here today following prolonged illness. She was 92.

She was a recipient of the President's Gold Medal in 1953 for the Marathi film ''Shyam Chi Ayi'', which she produced and acted in.

Born on May 22, 1915, Sushila Devi joined films in 1941 and assumed the name of Vanmala Pawar. Between 1941 and 1954, she had acted in about 32 Hindi and Marathi films and was also associated with drama troupes in both languages. She was also a trained musician and dancer.

Madhya Pradesh's Director General of Police Anand Rao Pawar's aunt Vanmala Pawar was cremated at the Laxmiganj crematorium here this afternoon. Mr Pawar also attended the funeral.
