4th major infiltration bid foiled at LoC, 3 LeT ultras killed

Jammu, May 30 (UNI) Army troops today foiled another major infiltration bid killing three militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), who appeared to be Pakistani, at Line of Control (LoC) in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, army official sources said here.

A group of about nine militants had sneaked into the Indian territory via Sabra Gali in Mendhar sector across the LoC late last night, sources said.Besides they also added that a gun-battle took place in which three militants were killed, while six others fled back towards the Pakistani side.

The identity of the militants and their affiliation with any outfit is being ascertained, they said, adding they all appear to be foreign mercenaries.

During a search operation in the area the army troops recovered three Pak rifles along with 20 magazines, 200 rounds of Pak ammunition, six UBGL, six hand grenades, one wireless set, three antennas and a wire cutter, sources said.

"This is the fourth infiltration bid along the LoC during the last six days,'' sources said.

Troops had foiled a similar infiltration bid by militants at Chakla in Sunderbani of Rajouri near LoC by forcing them back to the other side on May 25 where militants left behind 6 AK-47 riffles and ammunition.

Another attempt by the militants to enter the Indian territory via Krishna Ghati in Poonch was foiled on the intervening night of May 25 and 26. An army jawan was killed and another injured in the encounter.
