New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today directed all cable operators to carry Doordarshan channels on their services as per the notifications issued by the Prasar Bharati.

According to these notifications, certain Doordarshan channels are required to be carried in prime band and some others in non-prime band.

This decision comes after the Authority noticed that some cable operators were not following the orders given earlier.

All cable operators are required to follow the Prasar Bharati's order under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995.

The telecom operator stated that any violation may lead to prosecution of the errant cable operators under various section of the TRAI Act, 1997.

''The non-compliance of the notifications results in the poor reception of the channels and also deprives the viewers from these Doordarshan channels of the public broadcaster,'' said a TRAI statement issued here.
