Three held for carrying Rs one lakh counterfeit currency

Jalandhar, May 29 (UNI) Police arrested three members of gang who were carrying Rs 1,01,500 lakh counterfeit currency here today.

Senior Superintendent of Police Arpit Shukla said that on prior information, police succeeded in arresting three members of a five-member gang while they were travelling in a car carrying the counterfeit currency.

On search, fake currency notes worth more than Rs one lakh in denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 were recovered from their possession, he said.

The accused were identified as Rajesh Kant of Sham Chaurasi in Hoshiarpur district, Ajit Singh of Jaitewali, (Jalandhar) and Shashi Pal, a resident of Dakoha. The remaining two members of the gang have been identified as Bhushan, resident of Salaichari, (Shahkot) and Sat Pal Singh of Amritsar.

Mr Shukla said that those arrested revealed that they used to take the fake currency from Sat Pal Singh and sell it for half the denomination of the currency notes.

All the accused were booked under different sections of the IPC and efforts were on to nab the remaining two members of the gang, the SSP said.
