South West Monsoon advances into Karnataka

Bangalore, May 29 (UNI) South West Monsoon has advanced into entire coastal Karnataka and some parts of South Interior Karnataka today.

Conditions were favourable for its further advance into some more parts of interior Karnataka during next 48 hours, Meterological Department Director G S Vijayaraghavan said.

Rainfall occurred at most places over coastal Karnataka, at many places over South interior Karnataka and at a few places over North interior Karnataka.

Karwar got 9cm rain and Honavar rceived 8 cm rainfall during the last 24 hours, ending 0830 hrs today. Other main centres recorded major rainfall were Gowribidanur 6, Shirali, Manki and Ankola, Challakere 5 each and Shivani and Hosadurga 4 each.

Rain and thundershowers over most places over coastal Karnataka and at many places over South interior Karnataka and at a few places over North interior Karnataka was likely during the next 24 hours, he informed.

Heavy to very heavy rain might occur at a few places with isolated heavy falls over coastal Karnataka during next 48 hours.

Strong onshore winds from westerly direction, occasionally reaching 50 to 60 kmph was likely along off Karnataka coast during next 24 hours, he added.
