Property dealer shot at, attacker nabbed

Varanasi, May 29 (UNI) Criminals shot at and critically wounded a property dealer in the Lanka area here today.

Three motorcycle-borne gunmen opened fire from a carbine on property dealer Shashank Vikram Singh (30), sitting outside his residential complex at Naria.

Hearing the gun shots, locals chased the attackers and managed to get hold one of them, who was identified as Arjun Khatik, carrying a reward of Rs 2,500 on his head, police said.

Shashank was rushed to a private hospital, where his condition is stated to be critical.

Meanwhile, the police rushed the injured gunmen to the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) hospital, where he was referred to the district hospital.

The property dealer is the son of Upendra Vikram Singh, former chairman of Uttar Pradesh Cooperative Bank Limited, who was also shot dead in Lucknow some years ago over a property and railway tender dispute.

Shashank was also allegedly involved in shady property deals linked to mafia which is suspected to be the reason behind today's attack.
