No chikungunya deaths: Central team

Pathanamthitta, May 29 (UNI) A high-level team deputed by the Union Health Ministry to study the spread of Chikungunya in Kerala today said no deaths had been reported due to the disease in the worst-affected hilly district of Pathanamthitta.

An eight-member team headed by Mr B K Prasad, Joint Secretary, Union Minister of Health, divided itself into three groups before beginning the on-the-spot study in the district where the maximum number of Chikungunya cases were reported in the state.

The team that reached here yesterday held detailed discussions with the officials of Health Department. The team began inspection of hospitals and Chikungunya affected areas today after a second round of discussion with Minister-in-Charge Mathew T Thomas, People's representatives and Health officials at the Collectorate.
