Four new trains added to Delhi Metro fleet

New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) Four new trains have been added to the fleet of Delhi Metro Rail in view of the increased passenger rush on the Metro system in the capital, an official spokesman said today.

With this, the number of trains owned by Delhi Metro has gone up to 64, he said, adding that another six trains will be inducted later this year.

The four new trains will run on the Indraprastha-Dwarka sub-city (Line-3) which carries the maximum number of commuters.

With this, the frequency of trains during peak hours on Line-3 has been reduced to 4.5 minutes as against five minutes earlier and the number of train trips increased from 349 to 362 on the line.

Peak hours on Line-3 extend from 0800 hrs to 1230 hrs and 1630 hrs to 2030 hrs.

About 5.25 lakh commuters travel on the Delhi Metro everyday of which nearly two lakh travel on Line-3 alone.

In addition, the peak hours on Line-2 (Central Secretariat to Vishwa Vidyalaya) have been extended from 0800 hrs to 2030 hrs.

Trains will run at a frequency of four minutes during this time and the number of train trips increased from 397 to 436.

On Shahdara-Rithala route, the frequency of trains will continue to be four minutes during peak hours.
