Five more arrested in connection with kidnap

Chennai, May 29 (UNI) Five more associates of notorious gangster ''Vellai'' Ravi were arrested by police in connection with the kidnap of a businessman from sub-urban Red Hills on May 22.

Police said the arrested were Shabeer Ahmed, Sabiullah, Younis Khan, Sania and Rajkumar.

While Shabeer was arrested last night for allowing the gangster and his associates to stay in his flat before the kidnap, the others were nabbed today for their various roles in the incident.

With this, a total of seven people have been arrested in connection with the abduction of the businessman Rajkumar for a ransom of Rs two crore. Two of the gangster's associates--Shivakumar and Rajkumar--were arrested after a shootout on May 25, when they came to collect the balance amount of the ransom demanded by the gang.

The businessman, who had arranged partial payment of Rs 60 lakh of Rs two crore ransom demanded by the gang, managed to escape from the abductors and lodged a complaint with police.

Acting on the complaint, the special police teams, armed with 'shoot at sight' order, launched a manhunt to nab the gangster the investigations revealed that his accomplices were also involved in the kidnap.
