Edible oil import up 4.43% in 2006-07

New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) India imported edible oil worth Rs 9,351 crore in 2006-07 as compared to Rs 8,954 crore during the previous fiscal.

While import of crude oil went up 9.7 per cent with palm oil and its fractions giving an impetus of 39 per cent, imports of refined oil slipped by 34.7 per cent, an official statement said today.

It said total import of senstive items during April'06 to March'07 was Rs 18,555 crore as compared to Rs 16,789 crore during the preceding fiscal year, a growth of 10.5 per cent.

The gross import of all commodities during the last financial year was Rs 8,20,568 crore as against Rs 6,35,013 crore in 2005-06, the data said, adding that the share of import of sensitive items constituted 2.6 per cent and 2.3 per cent respectively of these gross imports.
