New Delhi, May 29 (UNI) Describing the police action against the protestors in Dausa as 'unfortunate' the BJP today clarified that the State Government had initiated the process of including Gujjar community in the list of Scheduled Tribes.

Reacting to the violence and police action in Dausa against the Gujjar community protestors seeking inclusion in the ST list, BJP spokesman Ravi Shankar Prasad said the group of ministers of the Rajasthan Government had started the process of preparing the report and building up evidences supporting the case. The report was expected to be complete by July end.

''We are only sorry that the violence has broken and the protestors should understand that the state government has 'limited role' in expanding the ST list which required Constitutional amendment,'' Mr Prasad added.

He refused to agree with the questions equating Nandigram violence with that of Dausa, because there protesters were attacked by the CPI-M cadres in police uniform and the village was under virtual seige.

The lathicharge and firing in Dausa was by police and not party cadres, Mr Prasad reasoned.
