Civic election remains peaceful in Patna

Patna, May 29 (UNI) Approximately 45 percent of the voters exercised their franchise in the civic polls, which concluded peacefully, amidst tight security here today barring few incidents of violence.

State election office sources said no untoward incidents were reported from any of the 72 wards under Patna Municipal Corporation, where the polling was held today.

However, stray incidents of violence were reported from the city, where three bomb blasts were reported in Khajekallan police station. Police also recovered some live bombs in the same locality.

Inspector General (headquarters) Anil Sinha said the polling passed off at a peaceful note amid elaborate security arrangements and shoot at sight orders.

He said borders areas of the state capital remained sealed at fifty different points and patrolling on motor boats was conducted through out the day.

More than 7000 security personnel were deployed for the polling on 1148 booths.

About 1.88 lakh voters cast their votes to decide the fate of 844 candidates.
