Centre provides succor to sugarcane farmers
Bangalore, May 29 (UNI) Providing succor to sugarcane farmers, the Centre would spend nearly Rs 100 crore during next three years by implementing a special livestock and fisheries package in six districts of Karnataka.
The government had identified 31 districts in the four states of Andhra Pradesh (16), Maharashtra (6), Karnataka (6) and Kerala (3).
These were the districts that reported high incidents of farmers suicides.
The special package was now available to mitigate the distress of farmers in these districts, according to a release from Principal Secretary of Karnataka Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department.
Accordingly the Special Livestock and Fisheries package had been announced in six districts of Belgaum, Hassan, Chitradurga, Chikmagalur, Kodagu and Shimoga.
District implementation committees, which includes Deputy Commissioner, CEO of the ZP, District Lead Bank Manager and others would oversee the selection of beneficiaries.
The implementation of livestock project had been entrusted to Karnataka Milk Federation, the release added.
