Army called in violence hit areas in Rajasthan
Jaipur, May 29: Army has been called in for assisting civil administration in controlling the situation in the wake of violent protests and chakka jam agitation by Gujjar community in different parts of Rajasthan today.
Home Minister Gulab Chand Kataria said six columns of the Army have been deployed to assist the administration in controlling violence and preventing the mob from damaging highways.
He said the administration had already promulgated prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC around major highways in the state.
At least five people were killed in police firing to disperse the protestors who blocked a national highway, demanding reservation for the community.
