300 people suffer from Gastroentertis

Gulbarga, May 29 (UNI) As many as 300 people suffering from Gastroentertis after drinking contaminated water from an abandoned open well in Madbol Village in Shahapur Taluk in the District.

Official sources told UNI that 157 people were admitted for treatment in various hospitals and others were discharged.

The Health Department has taken up all precautionary measures, including clorinating and cleaning of open wells on emergency basis to prevent spread of dreaded disease.

Since drinking water was not supplied to the village through taps due to power failure, the villagers drawn water from a nearby abandoned open well which was highly contaminated. Of the total 850 population in the village about 300 suffered and 157 of them required hospitalisation.

District Health Officer Nalini Namoshi said that 22 patients were being treated by administrating intravenous fluids in Shahapur government hospital.

The Gram Panchayath office has been converted as temporary hospital and more than 100 patients were being treated.

The officials have dispatched required I.V fluids and medicines.

Drinking water was being supplied through tankers to the village.

The condition of all those admitted were stated to be out of danger.
