World Heritage status sought for Chandni Chowk
New Delhi, May 28 (UNI) Former union minister Vijay Goel today urged President A P J Abdul Kalam to direct the UPA government to seek World Heritage Centre status for Chandni Chowk.
In a memorandum, Mr Goel requested the President to direct the government to set up ''Walled City Development Board'' that will coordinate with various agencies to prepare the groundwork for acheiving the status.
Mr Goel said the government must take steps to construct a memorial and set up a museum outside the Red Fort commemorating the 150th anniversary of the 1857 Struggle.
Mr Goel said Dr Kalam gave them a patient hearing and assured to look into the issue.
