Twenty youths injured in lathicharge

Durgapur, May 28 (UNI) About 20 youths were injured today when CRPF jawans lathicharged more than 5,000 youths who had gathered at the CRPF campus here for a competitive examination, official sources here said.

The youths had gathered at the CRPF Colony in Amarabati for the examintion for appointment to 86 posts of the Group D staff.

To control the crowd, the CRPF jawans resorted to lathicharge in which 20 youths were injured.

The injured alleged that the CRPF lathicharged without any provocation.

However, CRPF Commandant Fakir Chand said, ''To control the situation, mild lathicharge was resorted to.'' UNI
