Train services on Mettupalayam-Coonoor section suspended
Chennai, May 28 (UNI) Train services on the Mettupalayam-Coonoor section have been supended for three days from today due to landslides between Hillgrove and Coonoor stations on Mettupalyam-Coonoor section.
Large boulders have fallen on the track and about 60 metres of it has been damaged, according to a Southern Railway press release here.
About 15 metres of embankment has been completely washed away in flashfloods following recent rains.
One of the bridges on the route has also been slightly damaged by the landslide.
Railway officials have rushed to the spot even as about 150 persons were engaged in restoration work, round the clock.
Passengers in the Mettupalayam-Coonoor train were transported in three buses by the railway authorities after it was backed down to Mettupalaym this morning, following the incident, the release added.
