TDP resolves to fight poverty
Tirupati, May 28 (UNI) The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) today resolved to eradicate poverty and improve the economic status of farmers, besides providing valuable eduction to their children and adopted resolutions to this effect on the second day of its ''Mahanadu'' here today.
TDP supremo N Chandarbabu Naidu said even after 60 years of Independence, only three percent of Below Poverty Line (BPL) people improved their lot through economic reforms.
Villages should be developed on the lines of towns besides implementing alternative economic reforms for the benefit of the poorin the country, he said.
The party also resolved to fight for poor people in the next 15 years.
Mr Naidu alleged that farmers got only 50 per cent of the cost of their produce while the remaining 50 per cent was gobbled up by middleman.
The party would also strive to improve the lot of the farmers and provide good education to their children, Mr Naidu said.
Earlier, the party's politbureau members,former Home Minister Deveder Goud and former Speaker Y Ramakrishnudu addressed the delegates. Even now a large number of remote villages did not have schools, they said.
Later, Mr Naidu and the TDP cadres took an oath ''we will struggle to eradicate poverty and improve the economic condition of farmers''.
