Shivaji Park ignored by BMC

Mumbai, May 28 (UNI) 'Shivaji Park', Dadar's famous landmark and home ground of more than a dozen cricketers, who have played for India, might soon be alloted funds for beautification and development along with some maintenance by the BMC.

Mumbai's landmark for political rallies, Shivaji Park has been so far ignored and an amount of Rs 1 crore alloted for development of the Park in 2004 has still not been disbursed.

Ironically, BMC now will be granting more than Rs 80 crore in this years budget for development of 2 gardens in the city, one near Dadar pumping house and the other at Dr Babasaab Ambedkar Garden, Powai.

BJP's corporator and standing committee member Balchander Shirsat said there are no proposals for the development, maintenance and beautification of Shivaji Park nor are there any tenders for it.

The standing committee chairman Ravindra Waikar took note of it and assured that the matter will be discussed in the house and appropriate steps will be taken to which the Additional Municipal Commissioner Manu Kumar Srivastav agreed.
