New Delhi, May 28: The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a petition filed by Raj Thackeray, nephew of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, seeking to quash the proceedings initiated against him by a Jamshedpur court for delivering inflammatory speeches against non-Maharashtrians.

A vacation bench comprising Justice Arijit Pasayat and Justice D K Jain refused to stay the arrest warrant against Raj.

The court, however, permitted him to withdraw his petition with liberty to approach the Jharkhand High Court.

The petitioner had reportedly instigated Maharahtrians to thrash non-Maharashtrians if they fail to behave.

A local advocate had filed a criminal complaint against Raj after seeing news channels and reading newspaper reports for trying to foment communal tensions and disturb peace, harmony and tranquillity.
