Landslides hit Mettupalayam-Coonoor rail line

Coimbatore, May 28 (UNI) A huge rock rolled down and blocked the traffic near Marappalam at the ninth hairpin bend on Mettupalayam-Coonoor road due to heavy rains last night.

Police said however no one was injured, but traffic was totally disrupted. There were minor landslides in the Nilgiris Railway (NMR) line between Mettupalayam-Coonoor.

The road traffic was diverted via Kothagiri. The Nilgiris district administration ordered immediate operations to clear the landslides as the tourist season was at its peak with more tourists expected from various parts of the country and abroad, police added.
