Kumaraswamy spends night in a poor farmer's house

Chamarajanagara, May 28 (UNI) As part of his village stay programme, Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, stayed overnight in the house of a poor farmer, owning half an acre of land in Badagalamole village in this district.

Unmindful of the 17-year-old jinx that a Chief Minister, who visits the district would lose his post, Mr Kumaraswamy arrived at the house of the peasant Venkatashetty at 0200 hrs where he was given a traditional welcome.

After spending anxious moments as the chopper carrying him landed in an agricultural field due to bad weather, Mr Kumaraswamy offered prayers at Sree Ranganathaswamy temple in B R Hills and heard the grievances of people before reaching the village for an overnight stay.

The Badagalamole village, with a population of 660 had been completely transformed into a model village as necessary facilities were put in place in view of the Chief Minister's visit.

All the thatched huts were removed and in its place 156 concrete houses were constructed by providing piped drinking water and electricity connections at a cost of Rs One crore.

Soon after he woke up, Mr Kumaraswamy went around the village.

A 'Janata Darshan' was held where Chief Minister listened to the problems of the villagers.

Later, on reaching the District headquarters Chamarajanagara, he worshipped at the Chamarajeshwara temple and offered special pooja.

Earlier, the Chief Minister visited Alur village and consoled the family members of a farmer M Somanna, who committed suicide.

He presented a cheque for Rs one lakh to the next of kin of the farmer.
