UP: Khaga assembly seat goes to BJP
Fatehpur, May 28: Dhunni Singh of BJP won the Khaga seat of Uttar Pradesh assembly defeating Congress candidate Anila Maurya by 7895 votes, wresting the seat from BSP.
The election to the Khaga seat in Fatehpur district, which was scheduled to be held on April 28 in the fifth phase of seven-phase UP polls, was cancelled due to the death of Congress candidate Munna Lal Maurya.
Anila Maurya, the Congress candidate who is widow of Munna Lal Maurya, lost to BJP candidate in the rescheduled polling on May 24.
The result of the poll was announced today.
The BJP now increases it tally in the UP assembly to 51.
BJP candidate Dhunni Singh polled 45109 votes while Anila Maurya got 37214 votes.
