Balram Jakhar not in race for Presidential post
Chandigarh, May 28: Madhya Pradesh Governor Balram Jakhar today clarified that he was not in the race for the country's President's post but was "willing to serve the country in any capacity".
"I have never asked anything for myself and my only desire is to serve the country where ever i am", he said while participating in a 'Meet the Press' programme at the Chandigarh Press Club here.
He welcomed the suggestion coming from certain quarters that a member of the farming community should be the Head of the country.
"I have held various posts and now i am now serving the country as a Governor", he added while refusing to be drawn into the debate on President A P J Kalam's successor.
While pointing that he was still a Congressman, he said that currently as Governor of a state he was the representative of the President and he did not belong to any party. " As Governor i am not a political figure", he added.
Refusing to be drawn into the Sikh-Dera Sacha Sauda controversy, he felt that it was the duty of every person to show respect to all religions.
