Italy court clears Milan imam in terrorism case
MILAN, May 28 (Reuters) An Italian court cleared a Milan imam of terrorism-related charges today after the statute of limitations kicked in, judicial sources said.
The imam was one of more than 30 suspects who had been accused of helping send militants to Bosnia in the 1990s and of spreading terrorism-related propaganda.
Known as Abu Imad, he had denied the charges in the long-running case, which exceeded the maximum amount of time allowed under Italian law.
Three suspects were convicted on the lesser charge of extortion and received sentences ranging from four years to six years in prison, the sources said.
