IMCP bags 27 seats in MMC, leads the tally
Nashik, May 28 (UNI) The Indian Muslim Congress Party (IMCP), a 'Third Front' formed by the 'maulavis', is leading the tally with 27 seats in the Malegaon Municipal Corporation (MMC) polls.
The elections were held yesterday.
There were 358 candidates in the fray for the total 72 wards of the MMC. However, Mayor Asif Shaikh, a Congress candidate, was elected unopposed from ward number 12.
The IMCP has gained 27 seats and is followed by the Congress, which has won 15 seats, including the one elected unopposed. Janata Dal has bagged 12 seats.
Shiv Sena has won 7 seats, while the Samajwadi Party has secured 1 seat. The NCP and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) of Raj Thackeray have won two seats each and Independents 6 seats.
Apart from them, parties like BSP, BJP, RPI, CPI and the CPI (Marxist) have failed to get any vote in these elections.
