Hottest day in 120 years in Moscow
Moscow, May 28 (UNI) Today was the hottest day in May in Moscow in the last 120-years.
With thermometres near bursting at 32.2 degrees Celsius about 1400 hours local time(1530 IST), the city's meteorological service said that temperatures will continue to rise and will reach at least 34 degrees Celsius by late afternoon.
Unseasonably hot May weather has already seen last year's energy consumption for this time of year surpassed by about eight per cent in Moscow and 12 per cent in St Petersburg, a spokesperson for the Russia's electricity monopoly United Electricity System (UES) said.
The meteorological centre said that scorching heat will persist over the next few days, pointing out that several more records may be broken.
