Hamas rejects Abbas bid for truce with Israel

Gaza, May 28: The Islamist group Hamas today said it would not halt rocket fire against Israel, as proposed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, after the Jewish state vowed to press ahead with its attacks on Gaza.

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert earlier pledged unlimited military action against Hamas.

Hamas spokesman Ayman Taha said: ''Therefore we have no choice but to defend our people. We will not surrender and we will not raise the white flag.''
