General Motors to launch new cars

Kolkata, May 28 (UNI) General Motors(GM) India, a subsidiary of General Motors Corporation, is likely to launch two new models of cars - Captiva and Epica in India.

Speaking to newspersons GM India Managing Director Rajeev Chaba today said, ''We are currently studying the feasibility of launching these two cars in India under the Chevrolet umbrella. We will take final decision in the matter within three to four months.'' After launching Spark, a car in the mini-car segment, he said, ''We have set a target of selling 2.24 lakh cars in the passenger car segment within 2010,'' Mr Chaba said.

The company has increased the sale on year on year basis. ''Last year we have sold 35,000 cars and we want to double this year to 70,000. With the launch of this new car throughout the country and diesel variant of Optra within next 10 days, the company can easily reach the sales target,'' he stated.

''Our aim is to capture 13-14 per cent of the share of theIndian market. Currently the company has six to seven per cent market share,'' Mr Chaba claimed.

The company plans to achieve 10 per cent share of the Indian market putting together the commercial and the pasenger vehicle.
