Elephant found dead in Asom reserve

Guwahati, May 28 (UNI) A male elephant calf was found dead in the Dibru-Saikhowa Forest reserve in upper Asom today.

The dead calf was recovered near the Kundaghat forest camp of the reserve by a team of environmentalists, who visited the reserve forest today.

The matter was then immediately brought to the notice of the forest department, sources said.

While the reason for the death was yet to be known, Tinsukia DFO Aniruddha Dey, who was out of station, said he had sent a team to look into the incident.

Though the DFO denied presence of poaching activities in the 340 sq km bioshpere reserve, the death appeared unnatural.
