Councillors demand area-based contracts for garbage removal
Mumbai, May 28 (UNI) Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Standing Committee members have sought area-based contract for speedy removal of garbage in the civic wards.
A proposal to initiate area-based contracts for garbage removal in K-West, H-East and K-East wards came up for discussion at the Standing committee meeting. Congress councillor from Goregaon Samir Desai initiated the proposal.
The need to initiate area-based contracts arose due to several small tenders passed in the budget and the subsequent problems related to it.
Small contracts that are given in various wards cause several problems.
BJP councillor and Standing Committee member Bhalcandra Shirsat said the tenders for the comprehensive contract should be cleared fast.
Standing Committee Chairman Ravindra Waikar said, ''The proposal will be worked upon and if found feasible, will be cleared and the tenders will be issued for a period of 5-10 years.'' UNI
